Glenn's Story

School My fondest memories from Westport High were performing in the orchestra and going to the Tigers Den dances. The things I enjoyed most about Arthur Hill was singing in the choir, acting in different plays and being in the different musicals that were performed during my years in school. After graduation, I worked at the Grey Iron Foundry for a little over 4 months, prior to enlisting in the Navy in December of 68. Little did I know at that time , that I would stay in the service for just shy of 24 years. I went to Boot Camp At Great Lakes, part of Company 903, consisting of Navy Band,Regimental Staff personnel plus the Bluejackets Choir. After boot camp I was still at Great Lakes for Electricians Mate Class "A" school. I retired from the Navy 31 Oct. 1992. During my 24 years of naval service, I lived off and on for thirteen years in Scotland. I also lived for three years in LaMaddalena, Sardinia, Italy. My next job started mid 1994 at the Post Office in Midland as a letter carrier. I worked ther until late 2000, when I was put on disability pension due to a work related injury that prevented me from carrying a bag of mail. I am currently working at Lange &...Expand for more
Leaman Electric here in Saginaw. I was laid off from my job affective 8/22/08. Since then I just decided to stay retired, I sure don't need the work. May 21, 2009 I had a house fire that totally changed my life. The fire started in my wife's room on the floor beside her bed, where she was laying bedridden. Needless to say I lost her that day. By the time my dog barked and woke me up that morning, fire was already blasting out her room door into the hallway. There was no way to get into her and the house was already filled with smoke to about 3.5 or 4 feet from the floor. If the dog I had just adopted for a pet rescue shelter in Commerce Township, MI. hadn'tt woke me up, my son would have lost both his mom and dad on his birthday instead of just his mom. Since that day my life has sure been different, 4 months and 1 day prior to our 37th aanniversary. Between my son and his girl friend I've been able to adjust, but it's real hard after that long of having someone else to look after, and they doing the same for you. Starting in Sept. 2009 I'm bowling in 6 leagues each week and a 7th one every other sunday, these help giving me something else to do all of the time.
